Virtual Water Assistant® is a cloud based technology that continually monitors the backup system and sends text or email alerts to any mobile or desktop computer device if problems are detected. The system alerts homeowners when the backup pump has activated during an emergency, when home power is lost, or when the battery charge is low – all of which may lead to costly basement flooding.
According to Pentair Senior Product Manager Brian Alexander, “The backup system protects basements from costly water damage by kicking into action during power outages or if the primary sump pump fails. This powerful battery backup works alongside any existing sump pump, and can help protect your home for days on a single charge. But it’s the internet connectively that really makes the system unique”, says Alexander. “Using a wireless internet connection, homeowners can know if their house is at risk for flooding even if they are thousands of miles away. After receiving an alert, homeowners can visit the interactive website, to view details and troubleshooting options, or remotely run a diagnostics test cycle to confirm the system is working correctly.”
According to the National Flood Insurance Program, floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States, totaling more than $3.0 billion in claims each year. The average residential flood claim amounts to more than $30,000 per flood – which is not covered in most standard homeowners insurance policies. Sump pumps are effective for keeping water from entering homes, but when severe weather knocks out electricity, or the primary sump pump fails, the home is at risk for extensive damage to carpet, drywall, electrical, furniture and irreplaceable items.
The battery backup sump pump provides homeowners with the ultimate peace of mind against basement flooding. It features a powerful, energy efficient DC pump that can deliver up to 2700 gallons per hour of flow – 20% more than the leading competitive unit. Proprietary Smart Charging Technology ensures superior battery health, and can recharge a battery up to 5 times faster than the competitive units. The backup pump can also remove over 11,500 gallons on a single charge when running on the recommended 75AH battery – up to 80% more than the leading brand using the same battery.
Behind the scenes Virtual Water Assistant® operates on the Arrayent Internet of Things (IoT) platform which lets manufacturers and retailers connect their products to the Internet with unprecedented simplicity. Arrayent was founded in 2007 by Shane Dyer, a Stanford grad and computer systems engineer who envisioned  a commercial platform that could serve as the backbone for the Internet of Things. Today, market leading name brand companies connect hundreds of thousands (soon to be millions) of their consumer and commercial devices to the Internet using the Arrayent Connect Platform. Customers include Whirlpool Corporation, Pentair, Monster, Maytag, Mattel, LiftMaster, First Alert, Chamberlain, and more.
